Christmas Meal at HomewardBound—Tues., Dec. 18, 4:30-7:00pm
Redlands UMC will prepare and serve a meal. Sign-up sheets may be found at the Welcome Center for those who want to purchase groceries, prepare the food, or serve the dinner at the homeless shelter. Share your blessings and Christmas with those less fortunate.
Reverse Advent Calendar; Redlands UMC Giving Tree—Ongoing
We encourage all families to participate as part of your Advent devotion. The idea is to grab a basket or box and every day leading up to Christmas, add beneficial items to it including non-perishable, long-life food and drink, toiletries and hygiene products, unused toys and games suitable for appropriate age groups, household essentials, and new clothing. Please bring your “Reverse Advent Boxes” to Redlands UMC by Sunday, Dec. 16. They will be donated to Hope of the Grand Valley and The Teen House well before Christmas. (Boxes will be available under the Christmas tree for you to fill, if easier for you to do that way.)
Christmas Cards for Veterans—Ongoing
RUMC will once again have a “Christmas Card” table in the Fellowship Hall. Please take the time to write out a card to a Veteran. The cards will be delivered to our local Veterans Hospital. We want to remember those who have served, as well as lift up those who may be suffering, either physically or mentally.
Hope of the Grand Valley—Ongoing
This is an Adopt-a-Family program where folks, or groups, can adopt a family for Christmas. If you are interested in participating in this worthy effort, forms will be available at the church Welcome Center.
DINNERS FOR THE HOMELESS AT HOMEWARD BOUND SHELTER
RUMC prepares and serves dinner for HomewardBound on the third Tuesday of every month. Each month one of the Redlands UMC ministry teams hosts the event on a rotating basis (i.e., Missions, Sunday School, Leadership Team, etc., with the assistance of Boy Scout Troop 353 and anyone who else who wants to participate that month). There are approximately 35 volunteers for each meal - preparing food, delivering the food, or serving the dinner that evening. Anywhere from 140 - 185 folks are served a warm meal.
Many friendships are built among our volunteers as they work together. There are relationships formed between the youth of the church and their elders; between the Scouts that meet in our facility and the church members. The volunteers also develop friendships with the guests at Homeward Bound of the Grand Valley.
Church members & friends have many different opportunities available to them to participate as meets their needs - cooking or baking in their kitchens, donating canned & paper goods, serving meals, preparing food at the Shelter for that meal, working together in the church kitchen, and bonding with new friends.
